The Ethics Course ID Tool (ECIT) is a valuable resource for colleges and universities seeking to identify ethics-related courses. With just a simple upload of course catalogs, users receive scored outputs that indicate the likelihood of a course being ethics-related. Developed through a combination of expert knowledge and advanced natural language processing techniques, the ECIT has been rigorously validated through empirical studies involving experts in ethics education. By utilizing the ECIT, institutions interested in enhancing ethics education can facilitate integration of ethics across the curriculum.
Upload your course catalogs in CSV or Excel format with columns named “Title” and “Description”. The tool analyzes these columns and adds five new columns to the output file. These include numerical scores for different ECIT dimensions and a linguistic column indicating the likelihood of a course being ethics-related. The file will already be sorted by this likelihood. Read our guide for detailed instructions.
The Course ID Tool is iterative, and to further this goal, the course catalogs you submit will be used to train the tool to better recognize ethics classes.
